An updated qualification procedure for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games has been released by World Archery and the International Paralympic Committee following the cancellation of this year’s European Para Championships in Olbia, Italy, which was announced recently by World Archery Europe.

The championships were intended to host a continental qualifying event for the Games with 10 quota places available.

These spots will now be distributed at the final qualification tournament, which is scheduled for 4-11 July 2021 in Nove Mesto, Czech Republic. The places will remain reserved for Para-Archers from Europe and be distributed through a separate eliminations bracket.

A cap in place at the final qualification tournament which prevented a country competing to win a second quota place in a category that it already had one spot secured has also been removed.

Ninety-three of archery’s 140 quota places for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games have already been awarded.

The following 26 countries have secured at least one place to the upcoming Paralympic Games so far: Australia, Brazil, China, Czech Republic, Finland, France, Germany, Great Britain, Hong Kong China, India, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Poland, Russia, Singapore, Slovakia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and the USA.

The archery competitions at the postponed Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games are scheduled to take place on 27 August to 4 September 2021.
