Waiting is over… In Minsk the 2nd European Games is ready to start!
After the great success of the first ever edition in Baku (AZE) in 2015, after 4 years everything is ready for the 2nd edition of European Games, in Minsk (BLR).
128 archers coming from 42 countries: 96 archers (48 men and women) in Recurve division and, for the first time, also Compound division will shoot at the Games (16 men and women) for a total of 32 athletes.
In the last edition, ITALY was first in the final medal standings with 2 golds, in front of Spain and Ukraine with 3 medals both.
Belarus has form at the European Games – if we can take form from the single previous edition. Anton Prilepov won individual bronze at the inaugural multisport tournament for Europe, in 2015. The Belarussian recurve women’s team also podiumed in Baku, losing only a narrow final to Italy to leave with silver.
8 medal events will be awarded in this edition: Individuals, Teams and Mixed Teams.
Venue: Olympic Sport Complex.
After the Official Practice of Thursday 20th, on Friday 21st there will be two Ranking Rounds: Recurve Men / Compound Women in the morning and Recurve Women / Compound Men in the afternoon, immediately followed by Mixed Team Eliminations (1/12 and 1/8).
On Saturday 22nd first medals in Teams competition: Recurve Eliminations (1/4 and 1/2) and Finals in the morning session; last part of the day will be dedicated to 1/8 Compound Women Individual Eliminations.
Mixed Teams Eliminations and Finals will take place on Sunday 23rd, from 1/4 till gold medal matches, for Recurve and Compound. In the afternoon Compound Men will shot Eliminations (1/8).
A long day on Monday 24th with all Recurve Men Individual Eliminations (1/32 and 1/16); same schedule on Tuesday for Women.
After Recurve and Compound quarter and semis, on Wednesday 26th Individual Women Finals will be shot.
Games will finish on Thursday 27th with all Men Eliminations and Finals, for Recurve and Compound.
European Games 2019 will assign also other Continental places for Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games:
– NOCs of the highest placed mixed team in the Continental Mixed Team competition will earn one (1) women’s and one (1) men’s quota for a total of two (2) quota places.
– NOCs of the highest placed athlete in the Continental Games will each earn one (1) quota place in the relevant gender.
