Archery is one of the 23 sports included on the preliminary programme for the third edition of the European Games due to be held in Krakow-Malopolska, Poland in 2023. It was announced following a meeting with the European Olympic Committees in Rome.
The European Games were launched in Baku in 2015. Archery featured with a format mirroring that of the Olympic Games and included only recurve archers.
For the second edition, held in Minsk in 2019, a compound competition was added.
As this announcement is for a preliminary programme, the format – and number of competition events – for the 2023 European Games has not yet been decided.
Poland has hosted several international archery competitions over the last decade, including the European Championships in 2018, a stage of the Hyundai Archery World Cup from 2013 to 2015 and the World Archery Youth Championships in 2011.
Last year’s European Games in Minsk acted as a qualification tournament for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
