The next session of the International Olympic Committee on Monday in Mumbai, India, will vote on whether to add five new sports – baseball/softball, cricket, flag football, lacrosse and squash – to the Los Angeles schedule.
These sports were proposed by the LA28 Organizing Committee, only for the ‘Stars and Stripes’ edition scheduled in 5 years, and were examined by the Olympic Program Commission (OPC) before being presented to the Executive Board. For baseball/softball, cricket and lacrosse it would be a return to the Olympic Games, while flag football and squash would make their Olympic debut in Los Angeles.
The disciplines of all sports already confirmed for the program will remain the same as those planned for Paris 2024, with the exception of rowing where a beach sprint competition will replace the lightweight double scull to optimize the Games’ infrastructure.
